Some of you know what tomorrow is because you share this anniversary with me, others are celebrating the event for the first time, and still others are celebrating with many more years attached. Tomorrow is LaGrange College graduation day. I remember that day really well... lots of excitement, lots of tears, lots of hugs, lots of goodbyes, then lots of packing, and more tears driving away. It was a good day. You know, though I think I almost enjoyed the day before better, well, specifically the night before, the last night in my college dorm with my best friends. Amidst all the boxes we all felt so excited. It was electric. The idea that our lives would change completely the next day I guess was in the back of our minds, but I just remember the feeling of enjoying to the fullest that last night of college. It was a special time. Congratulations on those of you joining the ranks of LC alumni tomorrow! Enjoy your last night to the fullest.

Happy Anniversary, Grammy and Granddaddy!

On this day some years ago, my sweet grandparents were married in the little church just opposite of their current home. I love to think of their beautiful love story. My room in their house... (yes, I said "my room." It's purple which was my favorite color when they moved into their house.)... overlooks the churchyard. And I love imagining what their wedding day was like. I feel certain my grandmother looked absolutely beautiful and I'm sure my granddad was very handsome. Their life was so full of promise and has proved to be very blessed not because of the location of the wedding, but because of their commitment to loving each other. Still, I sometimes think that I would like someday to be married in that same little church.

Anniversary Post
Today is the first anniversary of beginning this blog. Just want to say thanks if you've been reading this on any kind of regular basis. I've enjoyed rediscovering a love of writing that I think I'd really forgotten in the past. Looking over the various posts from the past year, I have to say I feel really blessed to have so many good moments (eating crawfish in Louisiana, in New York with the US-2s, Labor Day and Christmas with the Nine, Green Bough retreat, 4th of July at home, snowy Bristol), awesome friends (international friends with whom I celebrated Halloween, Thanksgiving abroad, Rotary Club members on trips to London and Chichester, my tea party with Aunt June), and varied experiences (walking down and climbing back up to Clicket on my first fieldtrip, watching as Barack Obama was sworn in as president) to remember. This year has been one of transition and writing about it has probably helped me to remain at peace through it all. Transitioning from working as a US-2 to a post-graduate student has not been easy, but looking back it all seems to be part of a grander plan, one that I hope will eventually unite my two career interests (social justice and archaeology) more profoundly.
